Intense fighting in Afghan city Ghazni as Taliban presses
Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters engaged in intense clashes near the police headquarters and governor’s palace on Sunday as the battle for the eastern city of Ghazni entered its third day.
“Only the governor’s office, police headquarters and intelligence agency’s compound are in the hands of the government and Taliban are pushing to take them,” a lawmaker from Ghazni said.
There has been no confirmed word on casualties or on the “exact situation” following US airstrikes because communication lines have been down.
Some reports claimed Taliban fighters continued to torch government offices and take control of a number of police checkpoints.
The attack quashes any hope for a second ceasefire during Eid al Adha.
