LA airport staff fail to detect gun in hand luggage
Security staff at Los Angeles International Airport are currently under investigation after failing to detect a handgun in a carry-on luggage.

The weapon was only picked up when the off-duty police officer, who flew from Los Angeles to Taiwan, had to change planes in Taipei.

The officer, who was set to join her family for a holiday in Thailand, has been barred from leaving Taiwan after she informed local authorities about the gun and six bullets in her hand luggage.

US federal officials said appropriate action will be taken.

It is unclear whether the officer will face disciplinary charges on her return.
