Over 7 million vote in Venezuelan referendum
Millions have extended their support to the opposition-led referendum in Venezuela, in a bid to oppose President Nicolas Maduro’s plan for a new assembly charged with rewriting the constitution.
According to academics monitoring the poll, over seven million people have cast their vote in the ‘symbolic’ referendum.
The vote, however, was marred by violence when a woman was shot dead and four others wounded after government supporters attacked an opposition polling site in western Caracas.
Over the last few months, over 100 people have died in anti-government protests in Venezuela since April.
