UAE residents asked to cut down power usage by 40%

Residents across the UAE will be forced to cut their consumption of electricity by 40 per cent under new measures being implemented by authorities.

The plan is part of the government’s Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to have 50 per cent of the country’s electricity being produced using zero-carbon sources, such as solar and nuclear energy.

Users will be encouraged to change their energy consumption habits though higher tariffs and tough green building codes.

UAE Energy Minister Suhail Al Mazourei explains what he expects to see from these initiatives.
