US troops arrive in Poland

The US military says the deployment of troops and weapons to Poland is part of American efforts to send a message to Russia, to deter aggression.

As part of NATO training exercises, thousands of American soldiers and their required equipment have arrived in a small town in Poland.

It is the largest US military reinforcement of Europe in decades, and part of American President Barack Obama’s response to Russia’s intervention.

It is unclear whether this military programme will continue when Donald Trump moves into the White House.
